The PPVC method, the production of prefabricated and pre-treated box modules in a controlled factory environment, eases construction in congested urban areas. Thus far, one challenge in extensive use of this method has been the strict pre-defined size of the modules. This has been caused by the most common production method where each module is made in one piece in a single casting, thus meaning that only one size of module can be made on a given casting. The method is quite expensive and may require hundreds of castings before cost benefits can be obtained, and it is mainly suitable for repetitive structures, such as elevator shaft elements or bathrooms. But now there’s a new, more profitable way.
The leading precast concrete technology supplier Elematic introduces a production solution for the PPVC method: the benefits of precast and PPVC are gathered under the same roof in a safe and controlled environment. The heart of the solution is a circulation line where the required concrete elements are cast, after which they are supported and assembled into one uniform structure. This production method also enables using energy-efficient sandwich walls in the module structure.
“Our solution takes the precast concrete method to a new level where flexibility, architectural freedom, material efficiency and production in a controlled environment are combined. The modular method suits well if the main target is to reduce the time required at the construction site. Furthermore, if a sandwich wall structure is chosen for the module, significant savings in apartment cooling energy can be reached,” says Curt Lindroth, Area Sales Director, Middle East at Elematic.
The Elematic module line offers controllable, efficient, and flexible production of box modules. It does not impose architectural constraints on shapes or dimensions in the same way as a finished modular mold does. A suitable production line can be connected to an existing plant or a whole new line can be built.
Elematic launches its own concept at The Big 5 Saudi fair at the end of March.
